From the foundational public health services assessment, succession planning has been identified as a gap across Montana's public health system. Succession planning is critical to ensuring the continuity and effectiveness of public health services. By aligning succession planning strategies with the foundational public health services and 21C efforts, we can build a resilient workforce to better serve our community members while proactively sustaining our long-term public health goals.

The PHSD Public Health System Improvement Office (PHSIO) has compiled some relevant trainings and documents to assist with succession planning efforts. You can access these resources in the TRAIN MT training plan… Succession Planning for Local & Tribal Health Departments - TRAIN Montana

The documents have also been attached for ease of access and sharing. If you are new to TRAIN MT, please reference the How To document attached that will walk you through the steps of creating an account. Any TRAIN MT related questions can be directed to our agency TRAIN Administrator, Kaela Schommer (Kaela.Schommer@mt.gov or 406-439-7165).

Please note, the PHSIO team is also planning to provide a succession planning workshop at the 2025 Montana Public Health Summer Institute, scheduled for Sept. 22-25, 2025, in Billings, MT.

Please contact the PHSIO team at HHSPHSDBuildingHealthySystems@mt.gov with any questions or requests for additional training or resources.

    Thanks,
