Power Sharing in Public Health: An Interactive Workshop to Shift Paradigms, Evolve Practices, and Empower People

WHAT TO EXPECT
This workshop is designed to transform the way public health professionals approach leadership, collaboration, and community engagement. This hands-on workshop will explore the essential principles of power sharing, focusing on skills that build trust, foster cross-sector collaboration, and what it takes to design and implement anti-oppressive practices. Participants will engage in dynamic activities and discussions that challenge conventional hierarchies and empower individuals and communities to take an active role in decision-making and prioritization processes. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have a toolkit of strategies to create more inclusive, equitable, and effective public health initiatives and will understand their unique role in sharing power and more effectively engaging their communities.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Enhanced Listening and Trust-Building Skills: Participants will develop advanced listening techniques and trust-building practices to foster more inclusive and supportive environments in public health settings.
- Effective Strategies for Collaborative Decision-Making: Attendees will learn practical methods for power-sharing in a variety of contexts that balances community needs with funder and governmental priorities, ensuring all voices are heard and respected.
- Implementation of Anti-Oppressive Practices: Participants will gain a deeper understanding of anti-oppressive practices and how to integrate them into their daily work to promote equity and justice within public health initiatives.
